Requirements
- Registered Midwife on the NMC register.
- Diploma or BSc in Midwifery Studies.
- Experience working in various settings using a range of midwifery skills.
- Understanding of child protection processes and mental health legislation.
- Full UK or EU driving license.
- Clearance from the Disclosure and Barring Service.
- Desirable: Examination of the Newborn (NIPE), mentor/assessor training, and experience with home births.

About the Role
The Community Midwife will provide comprehensive midwifery care to a diverse group of women and families, focusing on individualized care and support. Working within a named midwife model, the midwife will engage in various environments, including GP practices and home settings, ensuring that all care delivered is evidence-based and centered on the needs of women and their families. The role involves assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating midwifery care, utilizing a holistic approach. Community Midwives are expected to mentor junior staff and students, participate in on-call shifts, and provide professional care to those choosing home births. This position plays a critical role in delivering high-quality maternity services across Birmingham and Solihull.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough assessments and develop personalized care plans.
- Mentor and support less experienced staff and students in clinical practices.
- Perform required clinical procedures and utilize necessary equipment competently.
- Communicate effectively with the wider healthcare team.
- Participate in the on-call rota and provide care for home births.
- Report incidents and contribute to service development through clinical governance.
- Lead and facilitate parent education programs in various settings.
